What is Tournament Poker?

Tournament poker is a competitive format where players start with equal chips and compete until one player accumulates all of the chips (or until the tournament clock has finished), with payouts based on finishing position.

Dealer Dealt

The tournament is dealt by a Perth Poker League Dealer. There are 9 players maximum to a table.

Player Dealt

The tournament is dealt by the players at the tournament table. Each player takes turns dealing a hand of poker. The player in the "Dealer Button" position will deal the hand. There are 10 players maximum to a table.

Poker Variants

No Limit Texas Hold 'Em (NLH)

Players are dealt 2 cards. Players may bet or raise any amount over the minimum raise up to all of the chips the player has at the table. Players completed hand shall consist of the best combination of 5 cards made up from the players 2 hole cards and the 5 communal cards.

Short Deck Texas Hold 'Em

A deck of cards is used where cards in each suit with the value of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been removed.

A flush ranks higher than a Full House. In a straight or straight flush an ace will count low in the combination, eg. 10, 9, 8, 7, A.

Format

Standard

Players are permitted to more than one entry. The amount of re-entries may vary per event.

Freezeout

Players are permitted one entry. Once elminated from the tournament, no re-entries will be permitted.

Bounty

Each player receives a bounty chip, in which the value is determined by the Tournament buy-in. When a player is eliminated, the player who had the winning hand receives the eliminated players bounty chip. The collected bounty chips are to be cashed in when either the player has been eliminated or the tournament has finished.
